Revered in the Americas and Trinidad & Tobago for it’s ability to transform the flavor of any dish, this little know local herb has proven to have several traditional medicinal uses as well. Interestingly, long time ago our fore parents similar to the Jamaicans knew it as Fit weed and treated persons with Epileptic fits hence its local name Fit weed.
In Jamaica its used also as an aphrodisiac and for asthma, colds and convulsions. Our Lucian friends use it for stomachache, headache and monthly pains. Recent research has shown that its an excellent alternative in treating joint and lower back pains.
It’s versatile in name as well as in its uses, internationally known as Chadon Beni, Culantro, Bandhaniya, Burmese Coriander Recao, ngo gai, Fit weed and Spirit weed.
Whatever name you may know it by and whether you choose to use it in your seasonings or Chutney, Doubles, Corn soup, or to ease those aches and pains, we have as much as you need.
